Petra de Jong is deeply inspired by the beauty of the North Sea. The movement of waves breaking over each other, the wind blowing along ridge patterns in the sand, reflections of sunlight on the water and colour changes of the sea and sky.
Her transparant painting technique, through which the image is built up over several layers, is essential because it suggests space and playfulness.
The titles of the works refer to the sea and landscapes and reflect De Jong’s connectedness to nature.
She lives and works in The Hague, where she graduated from the Royal Academy of Art. A variety of art commissions and exhibitions of her work have been displayed at home and abroad.
